The Doak Walker is awarded to college football's top running back
DALLAS, Texas (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University senior Ian Eriksen (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) has been named a Doak Walker Award preseason candidate, presented to the top college running back, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Thursday, July 18. This is the first time Eriksen has been named a Doak Walker preseason candidate after teammate Shaq Vann (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams) the last two seasons.
Eriksen is one of six Mid-American Conference running backs named to the 62-man list.
The Clarkston, Mich. native played in all 12 games for the Green and White, starting in seven. Eriksen led the Eagles in rushing with 810 yards on 179 carries, including eight touchdowns. He recorded four 100-yard performances, highlighted by a three touchdown game against Bowling Green State University in EMU's season finale, Nov. 21. He also rushed for a season high of 117-yards against Miami, Nov. 15.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name 10 semifinalists in November. Three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will be announced Nov. 20. The committee will cast a second vote beginning Nov. 26 to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.
The recipient of the 2018 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 6 on ESPN.
The award, which will name its 29th recipient in 2018, is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
Season tickets for the 2018 EMU football season are now on sale to see the Eagles. General admission season tickets start at $70 or fans can purchase the Ultimate Fan Season Ticket Plan for just $150. The premiere plan includes a padded chairback seat midfield in section 105. Buying a season ticket is your best deal, as you will save 38 percent when compared to the single-game rate at the door. Tickets are on sale online at EMUEagles.com/tickets, by calling 734.487.3669, or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office daily between 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
