Eastern Closes Out First Day of Spartan Invitational with Event Title

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team finished out the first day of the Spartan Invitational Friday, April 6, in East Lansing, Mich.
Senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) captured EMU's lone title of the day, notching a distance of 12.14m in the triple jump, which currently ranks as the fourth-best jump in the conference this season. Additionally, freshman Crystal Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.-Carson) placed third in the event, coming up just .03m shy of her personal-record distance with a mark of 11.86m. Washington's distance serves as a new season-high and slots her at sixth in the conference.
Freshman Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) continued the progression she has shown in her young career donning the Green and White, this time leading Eastern's hammer throw squad. In the event, Clarke set a new personal-best distance of 40.49m to take 12th-place.
The invitational continues with an action-packed schedule tomorrow, with the first events slated to begin at 10 a.m.
