Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are track and field athletes, Jasmine Jones, and Hlynur Andresson.
Jasmine Jones
Sport: Women's track and field
Position: Sprints
Year: Senior
Major: Marketing
Week's Achievements: Senior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa-Hempfield Area) continued to show her dominance as one of the premier sprinters in the conference during the Jesse Owens Invitational Friday, April 20. The Greensburg, Pa. product raced to a first-place finish in the 400m, clocking a personal-best time of 53.96. She also paced the 200m squad with a time of 23.54, finishing second in the event. Furthermore, her 400m time serves as the fastest mark in the conference, which gives her the fastest 100, 200, and 400m times in the MAC this season.
Hlynur Andresson

Major: Biology
Week's Achievements: Redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) broke yet another personal record in the 5000m at the Virginia Challenge Saturday, April 21. Andresson posted a time of 13:58.91, which serves as the new Icelandic record, while also marking the first time an Icelander has reached a time sub 14:00. Moreover, that time ranks first in the conference by 20 seconds, while ranking 63rd in the country. Andresson now holds the fastest times in the MAC for both the 5000 and 10000m runs.
