This is the second time Jones has earned the honor this outdoor season
CELEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University senior women's track and field athlete Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area) earned Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending April 15, the league office announced Tuesday, April 17. This is Jones' second time earning the honors this outdoor season.
The Hempfield Area product had a busy weekend at the Tennessee Relays Thursday-Saturday, April 12-14, in Knoxville, Tenn. Throughout the duration of the meet, the senior captain participated in the 200m and 400m, as well as the 400 and 600 relays. In her individual performances, Jones placed 12th in the 200m and 20th in the 400m. Her 200 time of 23.50 serves as a personal-record, while also ranking third in program history, first in the MAC, and 73rd in the country this season. Clocking in at 55.55 in the 400m, Jones ranks sixth in the conference in the event for this campaign. Moreover, she also assisted the 400 and 1600 relay cohorts to times of 45.39 and 3:42.80, which earned them fourth and eighth-place finishes, respectively. Furthermore, the 1600 relay time of 3:42.80 ranks second in the conference, and the 400 time of 45.39 is faster than any other MAC program this season, while coming up just short of EMU's season and conference-best time of, 44.99.
Jones and the Eagles return to competition this weekend Friday-Saturday, April 20-21, as EMU sends representatives to both the Jesse Owens Invitational in Columbus, Ohio and the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va.
