Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are softball athlete, Amanda Akles, and baseball athlete, Zachary Owings.
Amanda Akles
Sport: Softball
Position: Third Base
Year: Junior
Major: Criminal Justice
Week's Achievements: Junior Amanda Akles (La Habra, Calif.-La Habra) continued to prove that she is one of the top hitters in the conference with another great week at the plate, April 11-13. For the week, Akles went 5-for-10 at the plate with a double, three homers, and nine RBI's. The junior also drew five walks and scored four runs, and held a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. The La Habra, Calif. native has now reached base in nine consecutive games, dating back to March 31. Her hot streak is also one of the best stretches in program history as the junior has belted seven home runs over the past seven games.
Zachary Owings

Week's Achievements: Sophomore Zachary Owings (Saline, Mich.-Saline) led the offensive charge in a 1-1 midweek, and a 2-1 series win over Ohio, April 10-14. The infielder hit .476 with 10 hits, three doubles, a home run, and four RBIs, while scoring five times as well. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games, the second time he has had a 10-game hitting streak this season. His efforts helped EMU to its third-straight MAC series win, as the Eagles moved to 7-5 in conference on the season.
