The Eagles are most recently coming off their 15th Mid-American Indoor Championship

TEMPE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team begins its outdoor season at the Baldy Castillo Invite, Friday-Saturday, March 16-17, in Tempe, Ariz.

Last season the Eagles opened up at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., March 24-25, where they took two event titles and posted 24 personal-records over the two-day span. Sophomore Colin Etchen (Edgerton, Ohio-Edgerton) won the lone EMU individual title, putting together a vault of 4.72m, while Eastern's 4x1500 relay team captured first with a time of 15:37.52.

EMU most recently capped off its impressive indoor season at the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 23-24, where the Eagles took first place with a total team score of 179 points. The title was the program's 15th indoor championship, and the first since the 2013 season. A total of 12 student-athletes earned All-MAC honors, with 10 earning First team, and two being named to the Second Team. Additionally, freshman Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf) and redshirt senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich.-Erie) each earned Most Valuable Performer form their performances, while Day also nabbed Freshman Track Performer of the Year for his outstanding rookie campaign. For their direct impact to the team's success throughout the season, EMU Head Coach John Goodridge and Assistant Coach Sterling Roberts were each named MAC Coach of the Year and MAC Assistant Coach of the Year.

Goodridge and Roberts look to expand the Eagles' success into the program's 24th MAC Outdoor Championship, after falling just short in each of the last four conference title meets. Furthermore, the Green and White are in the hunt for its fourth "Triple Crown", after winning the cross country, indoor, and outdoor championships in the 01-02, 06-07, and 09-10 seasons.

Competition this weekend will begin Friday, March 16, and will continue to Saturday, March 17. A more detailed schedule of events will be available, along with a link to live results, as we get closer to the competition.
