KANSAS CITY, Mo. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University men's basketball junior James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 14 First Team Wednesday, March 13. It marks the third straight year that the organization has recognized the Eagles' center.
Thompson, who had been a member of the NABC All-District 14 Second Team each of his first two seasons in the Green and White, had a fantastic junior campaign, averaging 14.7 points per game as well as a Mid-American Conference-best 11.0 rebounds per contest. The Baton Rouge, La. native, who was also named All-MAC First Team, became just the third player in Eastern Michigan history to join the 1,000 point and 1,000 rebound club. He is now second in program history in both rebounds (1,074) and double-doubles (58).
The junior is among the upper-echelon of big men in all of college basketball. Not only does he rank third in field goal percentage (68.2), but he is also fifth nationally in offensive rebounds per game (3.9), and ninth in both double-doubles (19) and rebounds per game (11.0). Thompson sits fourth among the NCAA Division I active career leaders in rebound average at 11.0 caroms per game, and he is fifth in career rebounds (1,074).
