Bolyard Named an NWCA Coach of the Year Finalist

The fourth-year head coach is one of eight finalists nationwide
MANHEIM, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Wrestling Coach David Bolyard was named a finalist for the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Theraworx Division I Wrestling Coach of the Year the association announced Friday, March 9.
The award is presented to the coach that has demonstrated outstanding effort throughout the season in developing and elevating their program on campus and in the community. Bolyard is one of eight DI coaches to be nominated for the prestigious award.
The 2017-18 campaign was Bolyard's most successful yet at EMU in his fourth season. After finishing with an 8-8 dual record, including 3-5 in the MAC, the Eagles proceeded to tear up the MAC Championships. EMU took third place, finishing behind nationally ranked Missouri and Central Michigan. The third-place finish was the best for the Eagles since 2012.
Bolyard coached four grapplers into the finals of their respective weight classes, including an individual title for Kayne MacCallum at 184 lbs., EMU's first individual champion since 2009. In addition, the Eagles qualified five total athletes into the 2018 NCAA Championships, tying a program record set 1989 and matched in 1996.
The winner of the Coach of the Year Award, will be announced Tuesday, March 13, in Cleveland Ohio prior to the National Championship tournament.
