YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The 2018 Eastern Michigan University football schedule was finalized Thursday, Feb. 22, with the Mid-American Conference announcing its league slate. The "fan-friendly" schedule includes six home contests at Rynearson Stadium for just the 15th time since the building opened in 1969.
Overall, the 2018 campaign features 10 Saturday contests, while being book-ended with a pair of Friday games. Furthermore, EMU will play at home for three consecutive weekends, Oct. 27-Nov. 10, the longest such streak since the 2012 season.
An updated release of the MAC 2018 football schedule will be released in June with kick times and a television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during late October and November. All other game times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.
For the sixth consecutive year, Eastern Michigan opens the season at home in "The Factory" this time hosting Big South Conference member Monmouth University, Aug. 31. The contest is part of EMU's First Four Orientation Weekend with incoming freshmen students and their families in attendance.
EMU then hits the road for the next three weekends with trips to Purdue University, Sept. 8, the University at Buffalo, Sept. 15, and San Diego State University, Sept. 22. The trip to California marks EMU's first venture into the state since the upset victory over San Jose State University in the 1987 California Bowl.
Fifth-year Head Coach Chris Creighton and his team close out the month of September with a home game against Northern Illinois University, Sept. 29, during Parent & Family Weekend. The Eagles and Huskies have needed overtime to decide the winner in each of the last two seasons.
EMU plays at Western Michigan University, Oct. 6, before hosting defending MAC Champion, the University of Toledo, Oct. 13. The team looks to continue its recent string of success against Ball State University, Oct. 20, in its first game back in Muncie, Ind. since 2016 Election Night when it earned bowl eligibility.
The longest homestand since the 2012 campaign then awaits EMU. The Oct. 27 non-conference finale versus Army West Point wraps up the month, as the two sides square off on the gray turf for the first time since 2015. EMU hosts Central Michigan University, Nov. 3, before wrapping up the home slate with a Senior Day matchup with 2017 MAC East Division Champion, the University of Akron, Nov. 10.
After a bye week, Eastern closes out the regular season at Kent State University on "Black Friday", Nov. 23.
The 22nd Marathon MAC Football Championship game will again take place in downtown Detroit on a date that is still to be determined. This will mark the 15th Marathon MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
Game themes and ticket information for the 2018 football season will be released in the upcoming weeks.
