Eagles Finish Indoor Regular Season at Alex Wilson and Silverston Invite

EMU looks to continue its momentum gained in last week's GVSU Big Meet, Feb. 9
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team completes its indoor regular season Friday-Saturday, Feb. 16-17, when the Eagles compete at the Alex Wilson Invite in South Bend, Ind. and the Silverston Invite in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Eastern notched a team score of 122.50 points to place first in the Big Meet last week, which included 16 performances that earned a top-three finish, and 18 which served as new personal-records. Of the top-three performances, redshirt senior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) claimed first with an incredible sprint in the 400m, breaking the Big Meet record for the event with a time of 47.14, which also currently ranks first in the Mid-American Conference. Following Brown in the 400 was sophomore Tyler Johnson (Dayton, Ohio-Stivers School for the Arts) and freshman Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England), who finished second and third with personal-record times of 47.38 and 47.47, respectively. The trio of Brown, Johnson, and Richardson also ran to a strong finish in the 200m, this time with Richardson at the forefront. The Basingstoke, England native captured first place, crossing in 21.54 with Johnson and Brown coming in at third and fourth, respectively.
Freshman Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) highlighted the field events in the weight throw, as he marked a huge PR with a toss of 18.90m to take first place. Additionally, his distance was the best of any Eagle this season, and now ranks fifth in the conference.
Friday's competition in South Bend is slated to begin at 11 a.m., starting with field events and the 60m hurdles prelims.
