Five Career-Best Times Paces the Eagles Day 2 of OSU Invite

Eastern had seven top-15 finishes
COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University wommen's swimming and diving team saw five different Eagles turn in career-bests on the final day of competition at the Ohio State University Winter Invitational, Sunday night, Feb. 11. Overall, the Green and White notched seven top-15 finishes, highlighted by four top-eight marks.
Junior Rebecca Winnert (Buffalo, N.Y.-Williamsville) and sophomore Sydney Thomas (Jamestown, N.Y.) posted a pair of top-15 finishes in the 200 free to get the Eagles going. Winnert, who notched a career-best time of 1:52.64 in the preliminaries, claimed eighth-place in the finals with a time of 1:53.12. Thomas also posted a career-best time in the prelims of 1:53.14 before taking 12th in the finals at 1:54.22.
Freshman Avrie Stewart (Menominee, Mich.-Menominee) notched a top-10 finish in the 200 backstroke when she placed ninth at 2:08.90.
In the 200 breaststroke, sophomore Arianna Ortiz (Jupiter, Fla.-Jupiter) claimed 11th-place with a career-best time of 2:25.02.
EMU secured 17th-22nd-place finishes in the 50 free, before Winnert and Thomas took fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200 fly.
Sophomore Kylie Sutherlin (Fishers, Ind.) concluded the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly, touching in at 2:07.53.
The Eagles return to the pool next weekend when they travel down the road to participate in the Michigan 1st Chance Meet, Saturday-Sunday Feb 17-18.
