The Eagles (16-11, 8-7 MAC) fell behind early 20-25, but evened the match into the break thanks to a 28-26 victory. The Broncos (15-14, 5-10 MAC) rallied through the next two sets and turned EMU aside, 22-25, 14-25.

Western held advantages in nearly every statistical category, as Eastern trailed in attack percentage (.182 to .255) and kills (51 to 52), as well as side-out percentage (50 to 60). EMU did finish the match with more assists (48 to 45) and blocks (7 to 4), but also committed twice as many service errors (14 to 7) and had seven more attack errors (24 to 17).

Senior Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) led all players with 15 kills on the night and added 11 digs for a double-double. Junior Ariel Hamby (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) was the only other Eagle to finish the match with double-digit kills, turning in an 11-kill night.
