Eastern extends Mid-American Conference dual win streak to 15

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University swim and dive team opened home Mid-American Conference action with a 190-110 win over Ohio University, Saturday, Nov. 3, in Jones Natatorium. With the win, the Eagles extended their league win streak, now to 15 consecutive meets, while moving to a perfect 3-0 in duals this season.
Overall, Eastern earned nine event victories in the meeting with the Bobcats. The Green and White was led by senior Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) and junior diver Sophia Tsafantakis (Washington, Mich.-Romeo), who both swept their respective events. For the third straight meet, Swartz recorded top finishes in the 500 and 1000 Freestyle, touching in with her season-best times of 4:57.76 and 10:09.19, respectively. Tsafantakis, coming off of her first event win of the season against Toledo, Oct. 26, topped the leaderboards in the one-meter with a season-best score of 257.85. In addition, she earned the three-meter event title, finishing with a score of 232.43.
Also earning event titles for the Eagles were juniors Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Point South) and Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville), sweeping the 100 and 200 Backstroke events, respectively. Young tapped in with a time of 56.69, while Gavigan tallied her season-best time in the event with 2:01.18. Senior Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) earned the top time in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:01.79.
The Eagles are back in action Saturday, Nov. 10, as they head to Oakland University for a dual against the Golden Grizzlies. The meet is set for 1 p.m inside Oakland Aquatic Center in Rochester, Mich.
