Eastern adds Samantha Basham, Alayna Jansky, Jayden Otto, and Kam Stillwell
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Volleyball Coach Kimi Olson has announced the addition of four student-athletes for the upcoming 2019 campaign following the signing of their National Letter of Intent (NLI), Nov. 14. Joining the Green and White are Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic), Alayna Jansky (Mukwonago, Wis.-Mukwonago), Jayden Otto (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge), and Kam Stillwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan).
Basham comes to Ypsilanti by way of Granville, Ohio and Newark Catholic High School. The outside hitter is a four-year letterwinner for the Green Wave and has been a member of the all-league team since her freshman season. Basham also earned first team all-district and third team all-Ohio honors as a junior.
Jansky is set to join the Eagles from Mukwonago High School in Mukwonago, Wis. She is the first player from America's Dairyland to join the Eagles in over 20 years. The 6-foot outside hitter is the only player to letter all four years at Mukwonago, and was the first to pass 1,000 kills in her career. Jansky earned all-state accolades in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and was named to the UnderArmour All-American watch list. Jansky and the Indians won regional championships the past three seasons.
Otto is a Crystal Lake, Ill. native and becomes the second Praire Ridge High School grad to choose Eastern in the past two seasons, joining high school teammate and current Eagle Mackenzie Garis (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge). Otto served as setter for the Wolves since her freshman season, earning all-conference and all-area honors all four years, while getting an all-state special mention in 2017. Prairie Ridge has won two conference championships with Otto orchestrating the offense, and finished with a run to the Illinois state semi-finals. The setter finished her career with 2,648 assists, good for 16th all-time in Illinois high school history.
The final signee of the 2019 class is Stilwell from Parma, Ohio and Padua Franciscan High School. The libero is a four-year letterwinner for the Bruins, being named a 2016 NCL honorable mention member, a 2017 NCL second team member, and a 2018 North Coast League First Team member. PFHS won back-to-back Ohio Division II State Championships in 2016 and 2017, and was runner-up in 2018. Stilwell put up 305 digs in her senior campaign and added 63 assists and 27 aces.
