Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success in competition
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are volleyball athlete, Jordan Smith, and football athlete, Vince Calhoun.
Jordan Smith

Position: Outside hitter
Year: Senior
Major: Psychology
Week's Achievements: Senior Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) turned in a career-best performance in the 2018 regular season finale, tying the Eastern Michigan modern-era record for kills in a four-set match when she went for 27 at Northern Illinois. The outside hitter turned in 42 kills for the weekend while hitting .255, while also putting up 18 digs in the two matches.
Vince Calhoun
Sport: Football
Position: Defensive back
Year: Junior

Week's Achievements: EMU junior Vince Calhoun (Middletown, Ohio-Middletown) aided in the Eagles' defense effort as Eastern became bowl eligible in a 27-7 win over Akron, Nov. 10. Calhoun had two tackles, while also snagging UA's Alex Ramert pass in the fourth quarter for an interception. The Middletown, Ohio native returned the ball 39 yards to the six to setup EMU's third touchdown of the day.
Overall, Calhoun and the Eagles defense limited the Zips to just 90 yards of total offense, while forcing 10 three-and-outs, holding Akron without an offensive score throughout the matchup. With their efforts against the Zips, the Eagles extended their streak of not allowing an offensive score to eight quarters of play, the first time the team has accomplished the feat since the Green and White's 1970 campaign.
