YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team wraps up its three-game road trip to start the 2018-19 season by welcoming Goshen College to the Convocation Center for a 2 p.m. showdown Sunday, Nov. 11.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 with Ryan Wooley on play-by-play and Greg Steiner providing analysis. Additional coverage can be found by following @EMUHoops on Twitter, and through live stats at EMUEagles.com
ALL TIME VS GOSHEN: Sunday marks the first time that Eastern Michigan has taken on Goshen in its 120-year history of men's basketball.
The Maple Leafs are part of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), which EMU has three opponents from in 2018-19. The Eagles already defeated Rochester College on opening night, 77-67, and play fellow WHAC member Siena Heights Dec. 22.
A LEAGUE OF HIS OWN: Redshirt junior Boubacar Toure (Dakar, Senegal-Phase One Academy (Grand Canyon)) followed up his 15-point, 15-rebound performance in the Eagles' opener against Rochester with another double-double, this time with 14 points and 11 rebounds in Eastern's win over Drexel.
No player dating back to 1998-99 has ever started his career with back-to-back double-doubles.
WHAT A SCHEDULE!: The Eagles are set to take on one of their most daunting non-conference schedules of the Rob Murphy era in 2018-19, traveling to No. 1 Kansas, No. 4 Duke, and No. 20 TCU, while also heading east to take on Rutgers and Northeastern.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: Eastern Michigan has won 94 of its 121 home games during the Rob Murphy era of Eagles' basketball. EMU has racked up a solid home-court advantage inside the friendly confines of the Convocation Center since the doors opened during the 1998-99 campaign, winning 61.3 percent of the contests played in the building, piling up a 187-118 all-time mark.
COACHING CONNECTION: Second year Goshen coach Jon Tropf has a unique connection to Eastern Michigan men's basketball, having served as a manager during his time in Ypsilanti.
Tropf's senior year at EMU coincided with the first of the Rob Murphy era. That season saw the Eagles win the 2011-12 MAC West title for the first time in program history.
BACK IN ACTION JACKSON: Redshirt senior Paul Jackson (Stone Mountain, Ga.-Martin Luther King Jr. (Eastern Kentucky)) followed up his career-high 27-point output in the 2018-19 opener with a 20-point performance in the Eagles' win over Drexel. It marked the first time in the point guard's career that he went for 20 or more points in back-to-back games.
On top of the scoring numbers, Jackson has dished out 6.5 assists and grabbed 3.5 rebounds per game on the young season.
A "QUIET" NIGHT FOR THOMPSON: Senior James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) had a "quiet" night by the forward's standards in Eastern's four-point victory over Drexel, pulling down 11 rebounds and scoring six points in the 66-62 victory.
Thompson is the NCAA's active career rebound leader with 1,120 during his three-plus seasons with Eastern. The Baton Rouge, La. native needs 307 boards to pass all-time EMU record holder Kennedy McIntosh.
WELCOME BACK KEVIN MAC: After sitting out the season opener against Rochester College, sophomore guard Kevin McAdoo (Pontiac, Mich.-West Bloomfield) came off the bench to score 10 points and added a pair of assists in 21 minutes on the court.
One of the Eagles' top three-point threats knocked down two of his five long-range attempts to lead the team, and also contributed on the defensive side of the ball with two steals.
GROCE STAT STUFF: Redshirt sophomore Ty Groce (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Lincoln) has yet to register double-digits in scoring or rebounds, but has stuffed the stat sheet in both games this season. The forward is averaging seven rebounds, 6.5 points, two steals and 1.5 assists per game on the young season.
EMU PICKED TO WIN THE MAC WEST: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team was selected to finish first in the MAC West Division for the 2018-19 campaign, the Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday, Oct. 27. The Eagles received 183 total points, trailing only Buffalo (210) for the overall conference lead. The Bulls led the way with votes for the MAC Tournament Champion (25), with Eastern (3), and Toledo (3) tying in a distant second place.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan hits the road for the first time in the 2018-19 season as it travels to Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on No. 4-ranked Duke University, Nov. 14.
