The Eagles had each of EMU's 8+ boats racing for first time in 11 years at scrimmage in East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University rowing team raced pieces against Michigan State University and the University of Wisconsin Sunday, Oct. 27, in East Lansing, Mich, for a fall scrimmage. The Eagles, racing all rowable 8+ boats EMU owns for the first time in 11 years, saw tremendous growth at the scrimmage on Grand River.

"We raced today in a way that showed the big strides we have made compared to last spring," noted Head Coach Kemp Savage. "It was great of Michigan State to host us with Wisconsin. Sunday's racing showed us our capabilities against teams that have such great speed, putting us in a good place for the Head of the Hooch this weekend."

The Green and White raced 5 x 4min pieces on Sunday, putting rowers on the water in various lineups with its five boats. Additionally, the scrimmage gave Eagles novice rowers their first taste of collegiate competition.

"I thought both boats handled the anxiety of a new place and unknown factors extremely well today," Head Novice Coach Delaney McGuire said. "We showed a lot of maturity and executed what we have been working on technically very well, and made the necessary changes to see better results in the later races. We are looking forward to fine-tuning a few things in preparation for the Hooch next weekend."

Eastern heads back into competition Saturday, Nov. 3, when it heads to Chattanooga, Tenn. to take on the Head of the Hooch Regatta. Racing is set to begin at 10:38 a.m.
