Wiegers earned the award for the second time this season
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University graduate transfer quarterback Tyler Wiegers (Lake Orion, Mich.-Detroit Country Day-Iowa) reeled in Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season the league office announced, Oct. 22. Wiegers joins teammate Jake Julien as the MAC's week eight honorees.
Wiegers registered 257 yards through the air on 22-for-28 passing in stiff wind conditions to lead Eastern Michigan to a 42-20 rout of Ball State, Oct. 20. His 78.6 completion percentage ranks second-best in EMU single-game history, behind his 85.7 clip against Monmouth earlier this year.
Overall, Wiegers passed for three touchdowns and ran for another. He threw touchdown passes to Line Latu, Arthur Jackson III, and Isaac Holder. Wiegers scored on a keeper from the one-yard line with 24 seconds left in the half to push the advantage to 21-6, for the first rushing touchdown of his career. His performance marked the first time an EMU signal caller had thrown for three scores in a contest since Brogan Roback did so in 2017 also against BSU, Nov. 2.
Wiegers leads the MAC while ranking 22nd nationally in completion percentage at 66.0 percent. Despite
splitting time under center, he also ranks eighth in the MAC in passing touchdowns (8), as well as sixth in passing yards per completion (11.85).
Taking a break from MAC play, EMU will host Army West Point for its annual Homecoming game Saturday, Oct. 27, at Rynearson Stadium. The matchup will kickoff at 12 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
