TOWSON, Md. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team finished its weekend at the Towson Tiger Invitational Sunday, Sept. 10, in Towson, Md. with a loss (23-25, 30-28, 16-25, 28-30) against the undefeated host.
The loss snapped the Eagles' (7-5) five-match winning streak, their longest win streak since the 2013 season. Towson (10-0) lost just one set on the entire weekend, sweeping its four other opponents.
Freshman Franki Strefling (Niles, Mich.-Buchanan) set a new career-high in kills in the match, finishing with 17. She also had 13 digs, giving her her first career double-double. Junior Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) also record a double-double with 15 kills and 16 digs. Junior libero Alyssa LaFace (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) set a personal-best in digs with 34, and junior Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich.-Midland) recorded her third double-double of the season with 23 assists and 14 digs.

The entire match was evenly played, beginning with the first set. EMU and Towson played even to 14, and then the Tigers pulled ahead thanks to a 3-0 run that would prove the difference in the match. Trailing 24-19, the Eagles rattled off four straight points but came up short in their comeback effort, falling 25-23.
Set two started with Eastern Michigan clicking on all cylinders, lurching ahead to a 7-1 lead early. Towson battled back, and the two teams needed extra points to decide the winner. Ultimately it was the Eagles that were able to take the set when Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary Catholic Central) served up an ace to secure the victory.
After the break, Towson came out on a mission and made quick work of Eastern in the third set. Looking up at a 13-10 deficit, the Eagles saw the Tigers rattle off five-straight points and put the match out of reach. The hosts would cruise to a 25-16 victory in the set behind a .171 attack percentage.
The fourth set saw Eastern Michigan put together a comeback of epic proportions, going from down seven at 20-13, to up one at 21-20. The Eagles and Tigers battled back-and-forth past 25, with EMU getting to match point at 28-27. Unfortunately for Eastern, Towson had enough left in the tank to go on a 3-0 run and take the match, 30-27.

Haut contributed 10.5 points to the Eagles' cause thanks to eight kills, a service ace and two total blocks. Riley Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.-Perry Meridian) led EMU with 24 assists and also added six digs.
