YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After serving as Eastern Michigan University's volunteer volleyball coach for the past six months, Peter Winters has been elevated to assistant coach, EMU Head Volleyball Coach Kimi Olson announced, Aug. 2
"We are so excited to have Peter join the staff after volunteering this spring," said Olson. " We look forward to adding his strengths to the program, including training on and off the court and making people into a better version of him or herself, as well as networking and knowledge of local and regional high school and club volleyball. Peter is eager to learn more about the program and will be in charge of scouting & statistics, technology and film exchange, and defensive strategy and systems."
Winters was tabbed EMU's volunteer assistant back in January and has worked his way into his new role.
Prior to joining Olson's staff, Winters served as the Director of Training, Recruiting, and Coordinator and National Team Coach for the Huron Valley Volleyball Club in Saline, Mich. In that role, Winters worked alongside the club director to ensure quality development and instruction. He worked with athletes age eight to 17 years old, while he ran position training for teams.
Winters began his volleyball coaching career as an assistant at the University of Michigan-Dearborn for the 2014-15 season. There, he organized and maintained inventory of equipment, coordinated team meals, oversaw video operations, and assisted the head coach with recruiting and talent evaluation.
Before getting his start as a volleyball coach, Winters was the Head Swim Coach and Assistant Pool Manager at Forestbrooke Athletic Club and a Development Coach at LumberJack Aquatics, accumulating more than five years of coaching experience.
Winters graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2013 with a degree in parks and recreation management. He currently resides in Ann Arbor.
