Aug. 2 marks the first practice leading up to the kickoff against Charlotte

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University football team begins its quest for back-to-back bowl appearances Tuesday, Aug. 1, as the players report to training camp. The team's first practice is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 9:30 a.m.

Due to the AAU Junior Olympic Games taking place at Rynearson Stadium, the Eagles will host their first four practices away from home at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex & Retreat Center located in Xenia, Ohio, Aug., 2-5. Following Saturday's practice, EMU make the 213-mile journey back to campus.

With the elimination of two-a-days in preseason practice and the lengthening of camp, EMU will don full pads for the first time on Monday Aug. 7.

In keeping with tradition, the team will host its fourth annual Youth Day on Saturday, Aug. 12, starting at 11:15 a.m., on the gray turf inside "The Factory". Designed for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, the event is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

Youth Day is an event that was introduced by Head Coach Chris Creighton back in 1997 when he first arrived at Ottawa University. Its purpose is to give area children an opportunity to visit with the Eagles' student-athletes while enjoying football-related fun and games. Kids will have the opportunity to come down onto the field and experience the joy of running around in a safe, fun environment, while learning a few things about the game of football. EMU players will be interacting and encouraging their new friends throughout the event.

Eastern Michigan will also stage the yearly "Movie Night at The Factory" Monday, Aug. 21. Gates will open at 7 p.m., with the movie starting at roughly 8:40 p.m. This year's featured film is Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar Animation Studios' hit Finding Dory. Admission is only $5 per group or family with 100% of all revenue being donated to the Alzheimer's Association.

The Eagles open the 2017 season under the lights at "The Factory" inside Rynearson Stadium Friday, Sept. 1, versus Charlotte. Season tickets are available for purchase at EMUEagles.com/tickets, by calling 734.487.3669 or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office daily between 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
