Regular Season Comes to a Close With the Toledo Invite

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The regular season comes to an end this week for the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team, as the Eagles head south to Toledo, Ohio for the Toledo Invitational, May 4-5. The meet will serve as one final opportunity for the Eagles to compete before the postseason begins next week.
Last week, the Green and White attended both the Penn and Gina Relays, April 27-29. Out in Philadelphia, senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) claimed ninth in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in with a career-best time of 10:21.73, which stands at No. 3 in the EMU record books, as well as No. 2 within the conference this season. Additionally, junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) finished eighth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump.
Closer to home at the Gina Relays, EMU had a number of strong performances. In the 800m run, junior Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio - Circleville) took home a second-place finish, while sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) claimed seventh in the 1500m run championship with a career-best time of 4:23.28. In addition, junior Lauren Pottschmidt (Granger, Ind. - Penn) also secured second in the 3000m steeplechase, senior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio - Fairmont) took fourth in the pole vault, senior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio - Woodmoore) claimed third in the discus, and freshman Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill. - Joliet West) nabbed bronze in the javelin.
Last season, the Eagles wrapped up the regular season at the Toledo Invite as well, nabbing a total of 11 top-three finishes. Then-junior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J. - Irvington) finished atop the podium in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 25.13 seconds, while Branham nabbed second in the 400m dash. EMU also claimed event titles in the pole vault and the triple jump at the hands of Ellie Braidic and Kristina Coyne, respectively. Finally, Coyne finished runner-up in the javelin throw as well.

The Toledo Invitational begins Thursday, May 4, at 1 p.m. with the women's discus. The majority of the events, however, will take place on Friday, May 5.
