KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team began competition at the Tennessee Relays, Thursday, April 6, with a pair of events. Day one featured the hammer throw, as well as the first half of the heptathlon, as the Green and White had two total competitors on the day.

Senior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio – Woodmoore) was the lone participant in the hammer throw. Pendleton was able to finish 12th in the event, notching a career-best throw of 49.97 meters/ 163 feet 11-inches. With that throw, Pendleton increased her hold on the No. 6 spot in the EMU record books, as she trails the fifth-place holder by just over two feet.

The first half of the heptathlon took place today as well, with EMU freshman Gianna Salzbrunn (North Aurora, Ill. – Montini Catholic) taking part in the event. Salzbrunn kicked things off in the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 17.00 seconds flat to secure 13th-place and 596 points. The freshman then notched a mark of 1.45 meters/ 4 feet 9-inches in the high jump, in addition to posting a shot put throw of 7.33 meters/ 24 feet 0.75-inches. Finally, Salzbrunn crossed the 200m dash finish line in 27.80 seconds. In total, she accumulated 2165 points on day one, putting her in 12th heading into tomorrow.

The Eagles continue the Tennessee Relays tomorrow, April 7. Day two, which features the majority of events, is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the second half of the men's decathlon, while the women's heptathlon will resume at 11 a.m. Additionally, running events will start at 2:45 p.m. with the women's 400m hurdles and field events will commence at 3 p.m. with the women's long jump.
