It is the third time the Eagles have won the award this season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University senior right-handed pitcher Sam Delaplane (San Jose, Calif.-Leigh) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week today, April 17. It is the second weekly award of his career, and the third of the season for EMU, as juniors Brad Allen (Manchester, Mich.-Manchester (Jackson College)) and Brent Mattson (Canton, Mich.-Canton) have also earned the conference accolade.

Delaplane had a career-outing in an 8-2 win over Ohio to open the weekend series. The righty tossed the first complete game in his EMU career, striking out a career-high 12 Bobcats in the process, while not giving up a walk. It was the most K's recorded in a single-game by an EMU pitcher in the modern statistical era (since 1999). Overall, he gave up eight hits and just one earned run, after runs scored on a wild pitch and passed ball. His win was part of a weekend sweep for EMU, and the Eagles are now out to a 7-2 start, their best since 2008.

The outing dropped his ERA to a team-low 2.86, to go along with a team-high 51 strikeouts. His ERA and strikeout totals rank fifth and third in the MAC, respectively. He also has 169 career strikeouts, which ranks 12th in EMU laurels.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow, April 18, against Oakland University. First pitch from Rochester, Mich. is set for 2 p.m.
