Eagles Turn In Strong Performances at the Mt. SAC Relays

TORRANCE, Calif. & MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Action continued for the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team continued Friday, April 14, as the squad opened competition at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Ball State Challenge. EMU had a small group of distance runners out on the west coast, while a pair of throwers got things stated in Muncie.
Out at the Mt. SAC Relays, senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) got things rolling with a top-20 finish in the 1500m run elite invite. Bogdanova was able to clock in at 4:21.83, which was just off her career-best, to claim 17th overall. EMU had a very strong race from sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. – Zionsville Community) in the 5000m run open, as Meyers brought home the gold after posting a career-best time of 16:27.28. Additionally, the Zionsville, Ind. native now holds the No. 5 spot in the EMU record books when it comes to the outdoor 5000m. Redshirt senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven) took part in the race as well, crossing the finish line in 17:19.78.
In the 5000m run elite invite, junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) had a very strong race, as she finished 14th with a career-best time of 15:58.05. McDermitt's time further improved her hold on the No. 2 spot in the EMU record books, as she now sits just four seconds away from the top spot.
To begin the Ball State Challenge, EMU was represented by senior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio – Woodmoore) in the hammer throw. Pendleton turned in a sixth-place finish, notching a mark of 49.18 meters/ 161 feet 4-inches The javelin throw saw freshman Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill. – Joliet West) turn in a second-place finish, as she nabbed a career-best throw of 36.82 meters/ 120 feet 10-inches.
The Eagles resume action in Muncie on Saturday, April 15, as action begins at 10 a.m. with the men's discus, while the women will follow an hour later at 11 a.m.
