Eastern Opens Up MAC Play This Weekend

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will open up the 2017 Mid-American Conference season this Friday, March 24, when it hosts Bowling Green State University at the Chippewa Racquet Club. Following the match with BGSU (4-8), the Eagles (5-9) will head to the University of Akron Sunday afternoon, March 26. Both matches are slated for 1 p.m.
In the overall series between Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan, the Eagles hold a commanding 32-12 advantage, having won seven of their last 12 contests with the Falcons. Last season, EMU defeated BGSU, 4-3, in Bowling Green. After winning the doubles point, the Green and White took the No. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches in two sets.
EMU and Akron (15-2) have seen the court versus each other in 30 matches. The Green and White has been dominant over the Zips, commanding a 24-6 edge all-time. The Eagles suffered a 5-2 setback at UA last season, March 25. In that match, Eastern Michigan dropped the doubles point before Anna Veleva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) each walked away with victories in singles action.
