Women's Swimming and Diving Shines on Day Two of OSU Winter Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team completed competition at the Ohio State University Winter Invitational Sunday evening, Feb. 12. The Eagles posted four top-16 finishes on another career day for the Green and White.
In the 200 Freestyle, freshman Victoria Springman shaved nearly three seconds off her preliminary time to swim to a 15th-place finish. Springman clocked in with a career-best time of 1:55.24, while junior Hannah Newell (Ames, Iowa-Ames) touched in just behind her for 16th-place.
Senior Abby Aumiller (Canton, Mich.-Salem) claimed 13th-place in her lone race of the day, the 200 Backstroke. Cutting two seconds off of her prelims time, Aumiller touched in with a season-best time of 2:04.53.
Junior Abby Saddler (Chanhassen, Minn.-Minnetonka) was EMU's top finisher in the 50 Free, taking 18th with a time of 24.36. Freshman Arianna Ortiz (Jupiter, Fla.-Jupiter) won her finals heat, clocking in with a time of 24.33.
Freshman Marcella Da Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) closed out the Eagles' day with a fifth-place finish in the 200 Butterfly. After posting a career-best time of 2:10.14 in the prelims, Da Costa improved by nearly a full second, finishing in 2:09.20 in the finals.
EMU returns to action next weekend, Feb. 18-19, at the Michigan First Chance Meet, before competing in the Mid-American Conference championships at the end of the month.
