EMU Soccer's Season Comes to Close with 4-1 Loss to CMU

The Eagles finish the season with a 7-12-1 record

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University soccer team saw its season come to a close Thursday, Oct. 26, as EMU fell to in-state foe Central Michigan University, 4-1. With the loss, the Eagles fell short of qualifying for the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Junior Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) totaled a career-best 11 saves in the defeat.

Eastern struck first as freshman Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) pushed a pass to junior Peyton Davis (North Ridgeville, Ohio-Holy Name) on a run down the sideline. Taking one touch, Davis uncorked a laser into the net, firing it past the reach of the CMU keeper. Davis' goal, her team-leading fifth of the season, put Eastern Michigan in front 1-nil with just over 10 minutes to play in the half.

Williams racked up six saves over the first 45 minutes and fought off three CMU corners to keep EMU's 1-nil lead intact heading into the break.

Central Michigan got out to a hot start in the second half, scoring three times in the first 20 minutes of the period. First, CMU slotted home the equalizer in the 48th minute, before taking its first lead of the afternoon on a header in the 53rd. Then, with EMU pressing to even the score, the Chippewas netted an insurance tally in the 64th minute to take a 3-1 lead.

Struggling to steal the momentum away from the Chippewas, the Eagles dropped the match by a final score of 4-1.

The loss eliminated the Eagles from postseason play, as Eastern Michigan finished the season with a 7-12-1 overall record. In MAC play, the Green and White finished ninth overall and fifth in the West with a 4-7-0 mark.
