The event will continue Friday morning at the University of Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan's women's tennis team's participation at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional had a soggy start Thursday, Oct. 12, as rain held a lasting impact on the event at the University of Michigan.
Instead of matches being held both indoors and outdoors, the rain limited action all day and forced the tournament inside for nearly its entirety.
The only EMU netter in action Thursday was junior Marie Mayerova (Krmelin, Czech Republic), who won her opening match against Maruqette, 6-1, 6-1, before falling in a tight match to Northern Illinois, 7-6, 6-4.
Friday will give the Eagles the chance to hit the court in doubles, as Mayerova teams up with Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) against a duo from Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green. The start time of the doubles match play will be determined when singles play has concluded Friday morning.
The six-day event is held at the Varsity Tennis Center on the campus of the host school, the University of Michigan. In a change from past years, the tournament will be held outdoors if weather allows since the national tournament is now an outdoor tournament. Fans are encouraged to follow Michigan tennis on twitter (@umichtennis) for the most up-to-date information on whether the matches will be indoors or outdoors. Admission to the event is free.
