Meet Information
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - After a summer of hard work, the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team returns to the course this weekend, heading to Northville, Mich. for the Detroit Titan Invitational, Sept. 10. This marks the third consecutive season in which Eastern will participate in the early-season race.
Head Coach John Goodridge is excited to have his team out on the course again, stating "The Detroit Invite is an opportunity for our redshirted freshmen, and new freshmen, to wear the EMU uniform for the first time and earn the right to wear it again. The race will give athletes and the coach an evaluation benchmark of their summer running."
Last season, the Green and White ran to a first-place team finish after totaling 44 points, including two of the top-three individual spots. Abel Flores (Defiance, Ohio - Defiance) paced EMU, running to a second-place finish with a time of 20:20.2, while Cameron Trinh was just behind him in third after clocking in at 20:24.1. Also finishing in the top-10 for Eastern was Nick McFarland (Hillsborough, N.J. - Hillsborough), who nabbed 10th by crossing the finish line in 21:12.8.
The Eagles raced many newcomers at last year's meet as well, allowing the freshmen to gain good experience. Morgan O'Flahrity (Madison, Wis. - Edgewood) was the team's top freshman finisher, coming in 14th with a time of 21:18.4. This year's race figures to be similar, as the lineup will likely feature some fresh faces in the form of freshmen, as well as less experienced harriers.
Action from Cass Benton Park is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 5,000m open race, while the Eagles will begin their 4-mile men's collegiate invitational race at 11:45 a.m. For more information on the meet, and a complete schedule, please click here.
