YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University redshirt freshman kicker Paul Fricano (Rochester N.Y.-Churchville-Chili) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 3. It is the first weekly award of his career.
Fricano made his collegiate debut in the Eagles' 61-14 season-opening victory over Missouri Valley State University, Sept. 2. Fricano etched his name into the Eastern Michigan record books, as he tied a program record with eight converted extra points, the most since 2008, and added a 35-yard field goal to his night.
In total, the Green and White's rolled up 61 points, the most scored since 2004. Meanwhile the margin of victory (47) was the largest in a season opener since 2008.
The Eagles continue their 2016 campaign Saturday, Sept. 10, on the road at the University of Missouri. Kickoff from Columbia, Mo. is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.
