Sophomore Kaylin Williams recorded her second shutout of the season in the win
GREEN BAY, Wis. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team closed out a three-game road trip with a 1-0 win over the Phoenix of Green Bay, Friday night, Sept. 2. Freshman Nicole Remedios (Ajax, Ontario-Archbishop Dennis O'Connor) registered her first career goal to lead the Eagles (1-2-1) to the win.
As a team, Eastern Michigan held a 13-8 advantage in shots and 5-2 edge in corners.
EMU maintained constant pressure on Green Bay in the first half, imposing its physicality on the Phoenix defense en route to a 6-3 lead in shots, but failed to find the back of the net. Despite putting a majority of their shots on frame, the Eagles headed to halftime tied at zero.
The match remained scoreless until the 78th minute when the Eagles garnered a corner. Senior Madison Hirsch (Troy, Mich.-Troy) stepped the flag and delivered a service into the box. Hirsch's cross connected with senior Michelle Rollins (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) before Remedios collected the ball and fired it into the back of the net for the first goal of her career.
Remedios' tally proved to be the game-winner, as sophomore Kaylin Williams (Kansas Ciy, Mo.-Winnetonka) and the Eagles defense wrapped up a 1-nil victory behind a three-save effort from the sophomore keeper.
The Green and White return to the pitch Sunday, Sept. 3, against Loyola Chicago. The match is slated for 1 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
