Creighton is one of seven Mid-American Conference coaches to hold a vote
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Third-year Eastern Michigan University Head Football Coach Chris Creighton is one of 64 coaches at Bowl Subdivision schools on the Amway Board of Coaches and will participate in this season's top-25 balloting.
The Amway Coaches Poll released its preseason coaches poll Thursday, Aug. 4. The first regular-season poll will be out after the Labor Day weekend of games and continue weekly through Dec. 7, when the pairings for the College Football Playoff games are announced.
The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
Creighton is one of seven Mid-American Conference coaches to have a vote. Other MAC voters include: Akron's Terry Bowden, Buffalo's Lance Leipold, Central Michigan's John Bonamego, Miami's Chuck Martin, Northern Illinois' Rod Carey and Ohio's Frank Solich.
There has been a coaches poll for major college football since 1950. Amway became the sponsor of the poll starting with the 2014 season. Unlike The Associated Press poll of writers and broadcasters, the coaches poll does not allow votes for teams under major NCAA or conference sanctions.
The Alabama Crimson Tide were the overwhelming choice for the No. 1 ranking, topping 55 of 64 ballots in the initial poll.
