EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team had a pair of distance runners take part in the 5000m run finals today, June 11, at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) and junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) competed in the race, taking 17th and 19th-place, respectively.

"The pace was slow early on in the race, and Jordann and Alsu put themselves in good position," explained Head Coach Sue Parks." Unfortunately, when the pace picked up, they were unable to respond. They are both disappointed with their finishes, but it was their first time at the NCAA meet and I know that they will learn from the experience. They are capable of better, but nothing can take away from their great achievements throughout the year. I am really proud of all of the progress that they made in all three seasons and everything that they did for the team to help us earn the triple crown. I feel that they will both be ready to take their running to the next level in the upcoming year."

Heading into the race, McDermitt held the No. 14 seed, while Bogdanova was just behind her in the No. 17 spot. McDermitt was the first Eagle to cross the finish line, clocking in at 16:31.77 to finish 17th. McDermitt's finish left her one spot short of All-American Second Team Honors. On her teammates heels, Bogdanova managed to post a time of 16:38.80, nabbing 19th. With two runners competing in the race, the Green and White were one of two schools in the nation to have multiple student-atheltes running in the event.

This wraps up the Eagles' incredible 2016 outdoor season, which included winning the Mid-American Conference title and completing the team's first ever Triple Crown. The Green and White will now begin training for next year's cross country and indoor seasons, which will begin in the fall.
