The Triple Crown winning Eagles also nabbed two Second-Team spots

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Following the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team's historic victory at the Mid-American Conference in which the team secured the Triple Crown, the league office announced today, May 16, that seven EMU student-athletes earned First-Team All MAC honors. Additionally, the Green and White also placed a pair on the second team.

Leading the way with first team honors was the mid-distance duo of sophomores Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio - Circleville) and Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. - Chippewa Valley), who claimed first-place finishes in the 800m and the 1500m, respectively. Branham brought home gold for Eastern in the 800m after clocking in at 2:10.19, which was a personal-best and also the ninth quickest time in program history. Cizmas, on the other hand, won the 1500m by crossing the finish line in 4:28.38.

Sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) had a stellar three days of competition, amassing a total of two event titles. McDermitt brought home gold in the rescheduled 10,000m with a time of 34:39.35, breaking the MAC meet record. Additionally, the sophomore led an EMU sweep in the 5000m run, edging out two teammates for top-honors after clocking in at 16:45.36.

The final four first team honorees took part in the Eagles' winning 4x100m relay team. The group of freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. - Slidell), seniors Aaliyah Mckinney (South Bend, Ind. - John Adams) and Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind. - Pike), and sophomore Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. - Hempfield Area) won the event with a time of 45.72 to earn the honor.

In addition to the seven first team honorees, the Eagles also had two named to the second team. Junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) received the distinction after finishing runner-up in the 1500m with a time of 4:29.44. Additionally, senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven) also brought home a silver for the Eagles, placing second in the 3000m steeplechase after clocking in at 10:10.92.

Eastern now has a weekend free from competition. Up next will be the NCAA East Regional, May 26-28, in Jacksonville, Fla, where select individuals will compete for a chance to qualify to the NCAA Championships, June 8-10.
