Day Two Results

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – A trio of event victories paced the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team on day two of the Mid-American Conference Championships today, May 13. The Eagles, who won the 10000m, the 3000m steeplechase, and the decathlon currently lead the field with a total of 80 points.

The day began bright and early with the 10000m run, which was originally scheduled for last night, but was canceled due to inclement weather. Despite the circumstances, redshirt sophomore Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. – Mason) made the most of it, winning the event after clocking in at 29:41.07 to edge out the second-place finisher by five seconds. Also securing a top-three spot was redshirt sophomore Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge), who placed third with a time of 30:57.07. Finally, redshirt sophomore John Knox (Gloversville, N.Y. – Gloversville) rounded out the top-five, nabbing fifth-place after crossing the finish line in 31:25.23.

In the 100m dash, both Eagles narrowly missed out on qualifying into the finals. Sophomore Brandon Bolden (Solon, Ohio – Solon) finished in 10th with a time of 10.89, while freshman Aitor Ekobo (Madrid, Spain - Jose Luis Lopez Aranguren Secondary School) was one spot behind him in 11th after clocking in at 10.90.

A pair of sprinters ran in the 200m dash, with junior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio – Findlay) qualifying into the finals after placing fifth with a time of 21.41. Additionally, Bolden clocked in at 22.17 to take 11th. Brown was also the lone EMU sprinter in the 400m dash, where he crossed the finish line with a time of 47.35, which was good for second-place and a berth to the finals.

Two Green and White runners qualified into the finals of the 800m run. Finishing second in the prelims was senior Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis. – Bradford), who clocked in at 1:51.14 to secure a new personal-best mark. Additionally, senior Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich. – Lakeview) also snuck into the finals after finishing sixth and crossing the finish line in 1:51.95.

Eastern narrowly missed out on qualifying both hurdlers into the 400m hurdles finals. Freshman Elijah Barber (Columbus, Ohio – Eastmoor Academy) was the top Green and White finisher, crossing the finish line in 55.06 to take seventh, earning a finals berth. Additionally, sophomore Mark Cooke (Edison, N.J. – John P. Stevens) also took part in the race, coming in ninth with a time of 55.90.

The 3000m steeplechase saw the Eagles pick up a whopping total of 18 points, as the team claimed first, third, and fifth. Leading the way was redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee), who brought home the gold with a time of 8:48.80, which was nearly eight seconds ahead of second-place. The bronze belonged to sophomore Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 8:57.01. Finally, Andresson rounded out the top-five by taking fifth and clocking in at 9:11.10, which was also a career-best.

Also taking part in the long jump was freshmen Nicholas Herbert (Portage, Mich. – Portage Northern) and Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley), who notched ninth and tenth, respectively.

The Green and White came away with a podium spot in the shot put, as redshirt senior Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill. – Williamsville) finished third after notching a throw of 17.12 meters/ 56 feet 2.25-inches. Also finishing within the top-five was junior Quinn Levering (Caledonia, Ohio – River Valley), who nabbed fifth with a personal-best throw of 16.96 meters/ 55 feet 8-inches.
