EMU Mourns the Passing of Football Alum Troy Edwards

Edwards competed for Eastern from 1999-02
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University football team mourns the passing of former EMU quarterback Troy Edwards, who passed away Wednesday, April 6, at the OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill. at the age of 35.
Edwards earned four varsity letters for the Eagles from 1999-02. He played in four consecutive seasons after seeing time as a 'true' freshman in 1999. Edwards played in 33 games in his four years, starting 23 times for the Green and White, including seeing regular time as the holder on place kicks.
The Pekin, Ill. native started 11-of-12 games his senior season and was named the James M. "Bingo" Brown Award winner as the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player after throwing for 2,762 yards and 22 touchdowns. Those numbers rank fourth and second in a single-season in EMU history, respectively. Edwards currently ranks near the top of the EMU career rankings with 302 completions (seventh), 544 attempted (ninth), 3,552 passing yards (eighth), and 24 passing touchdowns (eighth).
After graduating from EMU with his degree in psychology, Edwards briefly played for the Peoria Pirates in the now defunct AF2 Arena Football League.
Edwards is survived by his wife, Heidi, step son Kaleb Bohannan, mother, Vickie, and sister Tracy Spracklen. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. in Pekin, Ill. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Memorial contributions may be made to Manito Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.
