The Green and White continued their four days of competition at the Drake Relays and the Gina Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa / HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapped up their third-straight day of competition yesterday, April 29, with day three of the Drake Relays and day two of the Gina Relays. The team had more strong performances, including three top-two finishes in the mid-distance events.
At the Drake Relays, freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) was the only sprinter to compete for the Eagles, as she took part in the 100m dash. The freshman clocked in at 11.82 to place 11th in a tough field. The team also had a pair of relay groups in the 4x100m and the 4x400m. Both turned in solid times, with the 4x100 group of Harris, seniors Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind. – John Adams) and Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind. – Pike), and sophomore Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) nabbing 12th in 46.20, while Jones, McKinney, and juniors Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif. – Carson) and Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J. – Irvington) clocked in at 3:45.07 in the 4x400m. The final competitor for the Eagles at the meet was sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia – Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1). Dreimane competed in the long jump, ultimately finishing 12th with a mark of 5.77 meters/ 18 feet 11.25-inches.
Moving closer to home, Eastern also had a contingent at the Gina Relays. In the 200m dash, redshirt freshman Emiesha Burrell (Ecorse, Mich. – Anderson) was the top Eagle finisher, coming in 16th after crossing the finish line in 26.00, which was a personal-best. Less than half a second behind, senior Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif. – Adrian Wilcox) posted a time of 26.48 to take 26th. In the 400m, Hardiman nabbed a top-five finish, placing fifth in 58.08, while Burrell took sixth with a personal-best time of 58.51.
Eastern found plenty of success in the mid-distance events, beginning with the 800m run. Sophomore Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) took home the gold after posting a time of 2:13.30, while fellow sophomore Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium – Sportschol KA2) was just behind her, taking second in 2:13.62. The trend continued to the 1500m championship, where sophomore Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley) crossed the finish line in a career-best 4:21.96 to take another silver for the Eagles. The next finisher for the Green and White in the event was sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison), who clocked in at 4:29.84 to take 13th.
The Eagles also had a pair of runners take part in distance events. Junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) made her 3000m steeplechase debut, where she finished seventh with a time of 10:35.20. Her mark also puts her third in the EMU record books. Finally, in the 5000m run championship, sophomore Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich. – Seaholm) turned in a time of 17:36.26.
In the two hurdles events, the Green and White nabbed a pair of bronze medals. In the 100m hurdles, freshman Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio – Withrow) took third after posting a time of 14.15, while senior Maya Carter (Racine, Wis. – Case) also placed third by clocking in at 1:03.70. Heading over to the jumps, junior Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa. – Chartiers Valley) competed in the high jump, placing 10th after notching a mark of 1.54 meters/ 5 feet 0.5-inches. In the long jump, senior Tericka Threatt (Missouri City, Texas – Dulles) ultimately finished with a jump of 4.76 meters/ 15 feet 7.5-inches.
Rounding out the competition for the day was the hammer throw, where EMU had a total of five competitors. The top Eagle finisher was junior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio – Woodmoore), as she took 11th with a throw of 46.58 meters/ 152 feet 10-inches. Three spots behind her, redshirt senior Reagan Briggs (Bloomdale, Ohio – Elmwood) nabbed 14th with a mark of 45.91 meters/ 150 feet 7-inches. Finally, freshman Jada Taylor (Neptune, N.J. – Neptune) made her hammer throw debut, finishing with a throw of 38.92 meters/ 127 feet 8-inches.
The Eagles continue competition at both the Drake Relays and the Gina Relays today, April 30. The team concludes their weekend tomorrow, May 1, with the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
