After winning the doubles point, the Green and White dropped all six singles matches
OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University's tennis team traveled to Oxford, Ohio Sunday, April 17, to square off with the reigning Mid-American Conference Champion, Miami University. The Eagles (4-16, 1-6 MAC) dropped the match, 6-1, as the RedHawks (10-9, 5-1 MAC) swept singles play.
The Green and White started off hot, winning a pair of doubles matches. Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supejova teamed up to defeat Miami's Lika Shapovalova and Andrea Badileanu, 6-2, in the No. 1 spot, while Ani Gogvadze and Marie Mayerova took the No. 2 match, 6-4. Despite leading 5-3, Renu Sharma and Anna Veleva's No. 3 doubles match went unfinished.
Singles play was not as kind to the Eagles as EMU dropped each of the six matches. Martinovska and Supejova were each able to take their opponent to a third set, but both eventually fell, while each of the other four matches were decided in two sets.
"Tough loss today," remarked Head Coach Ryan Ray. "Our doubles has been on track the last two weekends, but we didn't follow it up with enough today. Our third set winning percentage in the MAC is 11 percent. This is the key to our season. We are putting ourselves in position to win a lot of matches, but just not following through. A lot of factors go into this, but that needs to get better."
