LONG BEACH, Calif./NORWALK, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team began competition in California yesterday, April 14, with two meets. The Eagles did extremely well at both, taking home a number of event titles while recording a total of six personal bests.

Beginning with the Beach Pacific Coast Invite, sophomore Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) led the Eagles in the sprints, taking gold in the 100m dash with a personal-best time of 11.94. In the 200m dash, the Green and White were represented by senior Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif. – Adrian Wilcox), who finished 10th after posting a time of 25.95. Hardiman also ran in the 400m dash, claiming the bronze after clocking in at 58.29.

EMU had three runners partake in the 800m run, with sophomore Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) leading the way by taking third in a career-best time of 2:10.75. Fellow sophomore Claire Mesa (Rockford, Ill. – Rockford Lutheran) also set a personal-best, crossing the finish line in 2:15.21 to take seventh.

The Green and White took home another gold, this time in the 100m hurdles, where senior Maya Carter (Racine, Wis. – Case) claimed top honors with a career-best time of 13.94. Freshman Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio – Withrow) also ran in the event, taking fifth with a time of 14.23. Moving to the 4x100m relay, the trend of first-place finishes continued, as the group of freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell), senior Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind. – John Adams), senior Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind. – Pike), and Jones took gold with a time of 45.73.

In the high jump, junior Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa. – Chartiers Valley) finished 10th with a mark of 1.60 meters/ 5 feet 3-inches. Sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) led EMU in the long jump, taking the silver with a jump of 5.86 meters/ 19 feet 2.75-inches. Just behind her, junior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. – Grand Rapids Christian) posted a fifth-place finish with a mark of 5.69 meters/ 18 feet 8-inches.

Junior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio – Woodmoore) represented the Green and White in the discus and hammer throw, posting marks of 42.59 meters/ 139 feet 8.75-inches and 45.90 meters/ 150 feet 7-inches, respectively. Finally, Coyne also participated in the javelin throw, finishing 15th with a throw of 34.59 meters/ 113 feet 5.75-inches.

Running in the Mt SAC Relays, senior Amy Frauhammer (Saline, Mich. – Saline) had a fantastic performance in the 10000m. The senior crossed the finish line in 36:00.96, which was a personal-record by nearly a minute and a half. Additionally, she moved to eighth in the EMU record books with that time.

The Eagles continue action out in California today, April 15. The Mt SAC Relays will continue with day two, while the Beach Invitational will begin with the first day of competition.
