MIAMI, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team completed its mid-winter recess trip to Florida Friday, Feb. 26, when it traveled to Miami to square off with Florida International University. The Eagles (2-10) squared off with the No. 62-ranked Panthers (6-1) at the FIU Tennis Courts, but fell 7-0 without winning a match.
The match began with doubles play, where Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna and Anna Veleva teamed up at No. 3, falling 6-0 to FIU's Nerma Caluk and Kaitlin Brozovich, while Ani Gogvadze and Renu Sharma dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 2, icing the doubles point. Marie Mayerova and Klara Supejova teamed up at No. 1 doubles but their match went unfinished as they trailed 5-4.
In singles action, the Green and White struggled, falling in all six contests. FIU's Nina Nagode dispatched of Gogvadze to begin singles play, 6-2, 6-0, in the No. 2 slot, before Maryna Veksler got the best of Supejova at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2. The only Eagle to take their opponent to a third set was Barcelo, who dropped a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 6 singles to Brozovich.
