YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team utilized a high-powered offensive attack and ferocious defense to down Siena Heights today, Dec. 11, by a final tally of 117-55. The Eagles (6-3, 0-0 MAC) took the lead early, and never relinquished it to the Saints, with the lead stretching to as high as 65.

Eastern had a fantastic game on offense, finishing 43-of-72 (59.7 percent) from the field, and 6-of-15 from three. The Eagles were just one point away from tying the Convocation Center record for points in a half with 64 first-half points, and finished the game with the most in a game in Convo history. Additionally, the team had 26 assists on the day, breaking the previous single-game record of 25, a record that was set during the 2004-05 season. On the defensive side, Eastern held the Saints to just 17-of-54 from the field, and 6-of-21 from deep. EMU stole the ball 17 times, tying the third-most in program history.

Sophomore James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) and senior Willie Mangum IV (Richmond, Va.-Marshall (San Jacinto College)) both finished with 23 points on the day, with Thompson also nabbing six boards, while Mangum IV had three three-pointers. Junior Tim Bond (Baltimore, Md.-City College High School) stuffed the stat sheet en route to his first double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points, 10 assists, and seven steals. His 10 assists marked the most in his career, while seven steals was just one behind his personal-best. Senior Ty Toney (Atlanta, Ga.-Alpharetta (Georgia Highlands College)) and redshirt sophomore Jordan Nobles (Canton, Mich.-Canton) also reached double digits, scoring 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Saints struck first on a layup, but EMU quickly responded with a basket of its own. The next possession saw Mangum IV swipe the ball and convert an easy layup on the other end to take the lead. The Eagles continued attacking, with redshirt senior Quaran Jones (Fargo, N.D.-Ecorse (Findlay)) throwing down a nice alley-oop to go ahead 10-4 near the 16-minute mark.

Thompson used a nice spin move to sink a layup, and was fouled in the process, ultimately converting the free throw for the three-point play. Multiple Eagles kept the offense rolling, as six players had scored at least two points within the first seven minutes of play. At the 11:56 mark, Eastern held a 22-8 lead over the Saints with Thompson already nabbing seven points and four rebounds.

Eastern kept it rolling coming out of the media timeout, as Nobles had a beautiful behind-the-back pass under the basket to sophomore Baylee Steele (Norwalk, Iowa-Norwalk (Des Moines Area C.C.)), who threw down a dunk. Nobles kept it rolling on the next possession, making a layup of his own to put the Green and White ahead 28-8. The trend continued, as Nobles then sank a three to push the lead to 33-10, followed by a Mangum IV three and a Jones dunk to make the score 38-10.

The offensive onslaught continued, as the Eagles erupted to take a 50-17 lead with 3:41 left until halftime. Both Mangum IV and Thompson were in double figures at this point with 14 and 13 points, respectively. As a whole, the Green and White were shooting at a 66.7 percent clip (22-of-33), while the Saints were just 5-of-23 from the field.

Mangum IV drained his second three of the game, with Bond also picking up his seventh assist of the game on the play, to make the score 54-19. Thompson then drained a three, which was the first of his career, to extend the lead to 59-21 with less than two minutes until half. Toney closed out the first half by draining a jumper, and the Eagles held a 64-23 lead at the break.

Thompson got the second half started with a quick layup, moving him to 19 points on the day. Mangum IV then sank a three, which was his third of the day, on the next possession to push the score to 69-23. EMU continued attacking, as the Green and White led 74-29 at the first media timeout of the half. After another EMU basket, Toney went to the line and sunk both from the charity stripe.

Redshirt junior Lamar Wofford-Humphrey (Chicago, Ill.-Homewood-Floosmoor (Butler C.C.)) then got on the board with a nice layup, pushing the lead to 50, 80-30 with 14 minutes to go. Bond, after his fourth steal of the day, drove the lane and converted another layup. Shortly after, Nobles threw down a dunk on the fast break, putting EMU up by 55- 85-30. On that basket, Bond provided the assist, tying his career-high with nine.

Bond promptly picked up his 10th assist on the next possession, setting a new career-best, with Wofford-Humphrey sinking the layup. The Baltimore, Md. native picked up the double-double on a steal and transition layup, putting his stat line at 10 points and 10 assists, along with six steals. With 7:30 to go, the Eagles held a 98-39 lead over the Saints.

Eastern broke into triple digits on the next possession with a Mangum IV jumper, putting the score at 100-42. Thompson then went to the line, sinking both to give him 23 points on the day. Bond continued his stellar day, knocking down a floater, after which Wofford-Humphrey sunk a jumper of his own. At the 3:44 mark, EMU led 106-47. Both teams scored a couple more baskets, with the final score standing at 117-55.

The Eagles will next head to New England for a bout against Vermont, Dec. 17. Action from Burlington, Vt. is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
