Murray's Offensive Onslaught Leads to Eagles 3-0 Win

Murray hit .609 in the Eastern Michigan win
AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak with a three-set victory over the University of Akron Friday, Oct. 21. The Eagles (8-14, 3-6 MAC) defeated the Zips (5-16, 0-9 MAC), 25-22, 24-19, 25-21.
Devon Murray (Shelby, Ohio-Shelby) led the Eagles hitting at a scorching .609 attack percentage with 14 kills on 23 attempts without an error. Riley Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.-Perry Meridian) set for the Green and White, racking up 31 assits, while also hitting at a .571 attack percentage with four kills. Taylor and Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) posted eight digs apiece to lead the defense. As a team, the Eagles hit .259 while holding the Zips to a .159 attack percentage.
Smith led the Green and White's offense with four kills while Rachel Irbe (Greenfield, Ind.-Greenfield Central) and Murray each added three kills as the Eagles hit at a .273 attack percentage.Taylor picked up five of her digs in the opening frame as EMU took a 25-22 set win for a 1-0 lead.
Set two was just as friendly to Eastern Michigan. Murray went 6-for-9 in attack attempts as the Eagles held Akron to .000 hitting. Kelly Ferguson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont (Austin Peay)), Irbe and Smith each grabbed a pair of kills on the Eagles' way to a 25-19 set win.
In the final set, the Green and White dispatched of Akron, 25-21. Murray posted another stellar set, hitting 5-of-7 along with three kills from Irbe and Smith. Smith also grabbed four digs in the final set of the match.
Eastern returns to the court Saturday, Oct. 22, when they take on the University at Buffalo. EMU takes on the Bulls in Buffalo, N.Y. at 6 p.m.
