Eagles Downed in Three Sets at Northern Illinois

Eastern has dropped its first two MAC matches of the 2015 campaign
DeKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University's volleyball team dropped its second-straight Mid-American Conference match Saturday, Sept. 26, as the Eagles (8-7, 0-2 MAC) fell in three sets at Northern Illinois University. The Huskies (6-8, 2-0 MAC) used a strong offensive attack to outlast the Green and White, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19.
Alyssa Davis (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Plainwell) led the squad posting a double-double, grabbing 13 assists and 10 digs, while Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill.-Minooka Community) notched a team-high nine kills, while Katie Krasowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Marist) added six. Kelsey Jones (Reed City, Mich.-Reed City), Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) and Melva Smith (South Holland, Ill.-Thornwood (South Suburban College)) each contributed four kills. Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich.-Midland) led the Eagles in assists with 15.
Eastern's offense struggled in an opening 25-19 first set loss, hitting at just a .054 attack percentage, while NIU posted a .184 hitting percentage. EMU saw four members of its squad record a pair of kills, while T'ara Austin and Meg Wolowicz each led Northern Illinois with four kills in the frame.
The Eagles had their best offensive set of the match in the 25-20 setback during set two. The Green and White hit at a .242 clip, but NIU's offense surpassed the Eagles' output, registering a .448 hitting percentage. Perinar posted four of her kills in the frame, while Krasowski added three.
Northern took the final set, 25-19, as Austin added six more kills. EMU posted a .125 hitting percentage, managing just nine kills in the set. NIU notched a .281 attack percentage, on its way to 16 kills in the frame.
The Eagles return to action Thursday, Oct. 1, for their home opener at the Convocation Center. Eastern hosts Central Michigan University at 7 p.m.
