Eastern Finishes Up Season Opening Weekend in Colorado

The Eagles completed the Air Force Academy Invitational Sunday afternoon
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's tennis team closed out the first weekend of its 2015-16 campaign Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Air Force Academy Invitational. Eastern came away with three doubles victories, while the Green and White also took home four singles wins.
In doubles action, Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero defeated Texas State's Pippa Carr and Yadira Rubio, while Anna Veleva and Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna teamed up to knock off Joy Chia and Bianca Birkenstock, 7-5. Renu Sharma combined forces with Wyoming's Anastasia Tokareva to defeat Northern Colorado's duo of Lily Kreutzer and Lea Krajcovicova, 6-1.
Moving on to singles action, the Eagles saw four more wins in the final day at the AFA Invite. Klara Supejova led the way with a 6-3, 6-3 win versus Colorado State's Aina Hernandez-Soler, while Andrea Martinovska dispatched of Laia Hernandez-Soler in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8). Gogvadze remained undefeated in singles play, taking down Colorado State's Maddie Buxton, 6-4, 6-1, while Barcelo Almoyna was the other Eagles' win. She defeated CSU's Rebecca Costa, 6-3, 7-6, to pick up her first singles win of the 2015-16 campaign.
Following their weekend in Colorado, the Green and White will head to Evanston, Ill. for the Wildcat Invitational next weekend, Sept. 25-27.
