The Green and White won just three matches in their second day at the Academy
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team encountered stiff competition at day two of the Air Force Academy Invitational Saturday, Sept. 19, winning a pair of singles matches and one-of-four doubles contests.
"This was not a good day for us", remarked Head Coach Ryan Ray. "Our intensity in doubles was subpar and we are not match-ready entering the fall. We will catch up to where I would like to be at this point."
Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero proved the bright spot in doubles, as the EMU duo knocked off Hilary Walters-West and Courtney Schulte from the University of Northern Colorado, 6-2. After a 6-4 win in Friday's action, Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska fell short of a second straight victory, 6-4, against UNC's Beth Coton and Remi Immler.
In singles against Abilene Christian University, Gogvadze cruised to 6-2 and 6-3 set wins over Ansley Boarman. The Green and White's other individual victory came from Alejandra Barcelo, who cruised past Leah Davis, 6-3 and 6-3.
Action at the final day of the invite begins Sunday, Sept. 20, at 9 a.m.
