EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team finished up its 2015 outdoor season with a pair of Eagles competing on the final day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships, June 13.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Victoria Voronko (Stavropol, Russia-School #42) ended her chapter in EMU history in the championship final for the first time in her career. The Russian product, who is the program record holder in the event while having her name etched in numerous other events in EMU laurels, finished 12th in 10:08.05. Voronko earned Second Team All-America for her performance, and goes out as one of the most decorated harriers in Eastern history, including the recent honor of being awarded the Mid-American Conference Medal of Excellence.
Also earning Second Team All-America honors was the lone freshman to don the Green and White at the national championships. Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) finished 16th in the nation in the triple jump, bounding 12.62 meters/41 feet 5-inches. The freshman finished her first year as an Eagle as a Second Team All-MAC honoree in both the triple jump and long jump, and posted the second-farthest triple jump in EMU history in her first year of collegiate competition.
As the NCAA Championships came to an end, so did the 2015 campaign for the Green and White. Eastern had a hugely successful year, finishing runner-up at the MAC Outdoor Championships and winning the indoor championship title while adding multiple new entries to the varsity record book. The Eagles will be on the hunt for another MAC title in the 2015-16 season, and return a bevy of talented athletes who can contribute to another successful season for the Eastern program.
