Men's Track and Field Finishes Short Day at Hillsdale Gina Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team finished up the third day of the Hillsdale Gina Relays, April 25.

The pole vault and the triple jump yielded the highest finishes of the day for the Green and White with a trio of Eagles placing third. Dylan Stites (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) and Brett Lara (Chesterton, Ind.-Chesterton) both cleared 4.46 meters/14 feet 7.50-inches in the pole vault to tie for third, while Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) notched a mark of 4.16 meters/13 feet 7.75-inches to take 10^th.

Chris Fischre (East Lansing, Mich.-East Lansing) garnered the final third-place finish for the team, bounding 13.07 meters/42 feet 10.75-inches in the triple jump and was trailed by Wayne Blanchard (Toledo, Ohio-St. Francis de Sales) in ninth after a jump of 11.77 meters/38 feet 7.50-inches.

In the throws, Elijah Albert-Grayer (Canton, Mich.-Salem) finished sixth in the javelin throw after a launch of 47.33 meters/155 feet 3-inches, while Mike Hierholzer (Medina, Ohio-Medina) took eighth in the discus throw at 43.74 meters/143 feet 6-inches and Levi Selvig (Flushing, Mich.-Flushing Community) took 24^th after throwing 37.13 meters/121 feet 10-inches.

The mid-distance group also appeared for the meet, splitting up into two sections. In the 1500m run, Stephen Sparks (Lancaster, Ohio-Lancaster) paced Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview) as they finished in 4:04.07 and 4:04.42 to take 13^th and 15^th, respectively. Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis.-Bradford) recorded a considerable improvement on his time in the 800m, taking fourth in 1:52.15 while Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Farmington) took 22^nd in 1:57.14.

The Eagles will head south to the Buckeye State next weekend for another competitive weekend, this time taking on the field at the Jesse Owens Track Classic hosted by the Ohio State University. The meet will be held Friday and Saturday, May 1-2 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
