Eagles Have Success in Spring Round Robin Tournament

Eastern Michigan’s volleyball team went a perfect 5-0 in Maumee, Ohio

MAUMEE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team finished up its Spring competition Saturday, April 11. The Eagles won a round robin tournament hosted by Premier Volleyball in Maumee, Ohio. Through the entire tournament EMU racked up a perfect 5-0 record, dropping just one set on the weekend.

In five matches, the Green and White defeated the University of Akron, 25-20, 25-17, the University of Toledo, 25-19, 25-17, Ashland University, 20-25, 25-9, 15-7, Saginaw Valley State University, 25-12, 25-11, and then knocked SVSU in the championship match, 25-22, 25-17.

In the match with Akron, Katie Krasowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Marist) hit at a .600 clip, while Kelsey Jones (Reed City, Mich.-Reed City) posted a .444 hitting percentage. Corynne Smith (Norwalk, Ohio-St. Paul) posted a pair of aces, without an error while Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill.-Minooka Community) put together a solid defensive effort with four digs per set in the two-set win over the Zips.

Moving on to the other Mid-American Conference foe of the weekend, the Eagles dispatched Toledo, 25-19, 25-17 easily. Krasowski again led the Green and White's offense posting a .625 hitting percentage, while Perinar added a trio of aces. Defensively, Smith led the way, picking up 12 digs, good for six per frame.

In the Eagles' three-set win over Ashland, Alyssa Davis (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Plainwell) posted a solid all-around performance dishing out 21 assists and three aces, while picking up three digs on the defensive end. Offensively, Devon Murray (Shelby, Ohio-Shelby) went 4-for-5 in her attack attempts, while Krasowski added a .454 attack percentage in 11 attempts. Jones and Krasowski were forces at the net on the defensive end posting five and thre blocks, respectively.

The Green and White took on Saginaw Valley in its final two matches of the day, including the championship match. In their final round robin match, the Eagles saw Perinar post seven kills and a pair of aces, while Murray hit .600 on the right side. Samantha Falco (Antioch, Ill.-Antioch Community) went 3-of-4 in her attack attempts. Smith added four aces, while averaging 5.5 digs per frame.

In the finals, Krasowski led the offense yet again, going 5-of-6 in her attempts, while Perinar posted a team-best seven kills. Davis posted 20 assists, to go along with five digs on the defensive end. Smith led the squad in digs with 13, good for 6.5 per frame, while Perinar added eight and Jaclyn Ruffolo (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Mercy) posted four. Murray played strong at the net, stuffing a pair of SVSU attack attempts in the Eagles finale.
