KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com)
—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field completed its first two days of the Tennessee Relays Powered by Sea Ray Thursday and Friday, April 9-10.  Throughout the first days of action, the Eagles saw multiple personal records and top-10 finishes from their athletes.

On Thursday, the hammer throw and the first day of the heptathlon were contested.  Helga Volgyi (Szombathely, Hungary-Savaria Technical College) continued to improve in the event, setting a collegiate best of 56.75 meters/186 feet 2-inches to finish fourth and inch closer to the top of EMU laurels.  Also competing were Adrienne Waisner (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon) and Reagan Briggs (Bloomdale, Ohio-Elmwood), who threw 46.99 meters/154 feet 2-inches and 43.58 meters/143 feet, respectively.

In the heptathlon, the Green and White had Kate Wolanin (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) as its lone competitor.  Wolanin threw 93 meters/32 feet 7-inches in the shot put on her first day and came close to her best marks in the 100m hurdles and 200m, crossing the line in 14.97 and 25.82 seconds, respectively.  The senior picked up a win in the high jump, clearing 1.76 meters/5 feet 9.25-inches for a season-best jump.  On Friday, Wolanin finished third in the long jump after recording a personal-best jump of 5.55 meters/18 feet 2.50-inches, and also took third in the 800m in 2:24.15.  With a throw of 19.01 feet/62 feet 4-inches in the javelin throw, Wolanin amassed 4,866 points in the heptathlon to finish third overall.

On the track for Friday's action, Taylor Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Mott (Lansing CC)) recorded the highest finish for the Eagles after running a personal-best 2:09.69 in the 800m to take fourth in the event.  Knoll's mark not only automatically qualifies her for the Mid-American Conference Championships, but it is the eighth-fastest time by an EMU runner in program history.  Just behind Knoll was Agata Klimovich (Minsk, Belarus-Minsk School of Olympic Reserve) in 2:13.43 for eighth, while Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) crossed the line in 2:15.98 for 17th.

Another top-10 finish on the track was earned by Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams) in the 100m dash. McKinney took seventh in 11.83 seconds, followed by Danielle Clark (Paramaribo, Suriname-Ewald P. Meyer Lyceum) just one-hundredth of a second off her personal best in 12.02 seconds for 15th.  In the remainder of the sprints, Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind.-Pike) ran solo for the Eagles in the 200m, clocking in at 25.18 seconds for 24th, while Chante Roberts (Lansing, Mich.-Waverly) and Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif.-Adrian Wilcox) took 27th and 28th in 58.52 and 58.60 seconds, respectively, with Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio-Circleville) wrapping up the event for the Eagles in 59.09 seconds for 30th.

In the hurdles, Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) paced the Eagles in the 110m in 14.74 seconds for 19th, while Maya Carter (Racine, Wis.-Case) took 13th in the 400m after clocking a personal-best 1:04.62 and Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif.-Carson) finished one spot behind her in 1:04.91.

The Eagles had two more events on the track for Friday, with Victoria Voronko (Stavropol, Russia-School #42) taking 13th in the 1500m in a MAC qualifying time of 4:29.11 and Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) finishing 15th in 4:34.37.   The 5000m run was led by Lauren Pottschmidt (Granger, Ind.-Penn) in 18:25.17 for 19th place, with Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich.-Seaholm) taking 20th in 18:28.81.

Three events were completed on the field on the second day of the meet.  In the high jump, Sarah Chauchard (Montpellier, France-University of Montpellier) and Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio-Fairmont) both cleared 1.60 meters/5 feet 3-inches to finish 11th and 15th, respectively.  An 11th-place finish also came by way of Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich.-Grand Rapids Christian) in the long jump with a mark of 5.09 meters/16 feet 8.50-inches.  Fresh off breaking new EMU record in the discus throw, Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio-Woodmore) took 18th in the event with a throw of 41.38 meters/13 feet 9-inches.

The Eagles will finish the Tennessee Relays tomorrow, April 11.  Action will kick off with the 3000m steeplechase at 12:30 p.m. and will conclude with the 4x400m relay at 6 p.m.  Live results are provided by flotrack.org.
